The Second FJMC Joel S. Geffen Academy In Philadelphia July 1 - 5, 2009

Mishna? Who has time to study mishna?
Blow a shofar? Sure, one day I'd like to learn how.
Read Torah? It takes more time than I have to learn how.
How does the Jewish Calendar work? I wish I had time to learn how.
Sing in a choir? Sure, if I had time to learn and a great teacher to learn from.

Sound like something you've said? If there is a Jewish topic you'd like to explore, the FJMC Convention in Philadelphia in 2009 will give you that chance.

Friday afternoon will be devoted to Judaic topics in a graduate school type environment. We're going to have time to learn it right, with world renowned staff.

Join JTS Chancellor Arnold Eisen, who will be teaching a number of classes over Shabbat. Chancellor Eisen's publications include a personal essay, Taking Hold of Torah: Jewish Commitment and Community in America (1997); a historical work entitled Rethinking Modern Judaism: Ritual, Commandment, Community (1998); and The Jew Within: Self, Family and Community in America (2000), coauthored with sociologist Steven M. Cohen. He is currently at work on a book that probes new possibilities for the meaning of Zionism.

Join Rabbi Ira Stone, rabbi at Temple Beth Zion-Beth Israel in Philadelphia, and a visiting lecturer in Jewish Philosophy at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. He has taught and lectured widely on Talmud and the world of Emmanuel Levinas. He is the author of Reading Levinas/Reading Talmud (JPS, 1998), Seeking the Path of Life: Theological Meditations on the Nature of God, Life, Love and Death (Jewish Lights, 1993) and Sketches for a Book of Psalms (Xlibris, 2000) as well as well as numberous articles in various journals of Jewish thought.

Learn the passion of mishna with Rabbi Charles Simon, Executive Director of the FJMC and its spiritual source. Rabbi Simon has lectured at the Jewish Theological Seminary, and has a deep interest and has been the guiding force in the FJMC's Keruv Program.

We're currently working on the course catalogue, and will be posting it well before the convention. The FJMC Convention in Philadelphia will be your chance to change "If I had time" to "When I did".

Join Dr Eisen, Rabbis Simon & Stone and more than 500 men and women as we wrestle with these challenges and more at the 2009 FJMC International Convention in Philadelphia from July 1 to 5, 2009 at the FJMC's Geffen Academy. Don't miss this international experience; register now!
