Since October 7th, antisemitism has unfortunately been on the rise, not only in the United States but also in Canada and throughout the world, although many in extended communities may not realize that fact. This has been brought into stark clarity this past week when multiple news outlets in Toronto reported on the violent attacks on synagogues and Jewish owned businesses in the city. It is imperative that we, as the FJMC International Community in the United States, Canada and around the world, take action to thwart and prevent future violence against institutions and people. 
 
We encourage you to please reach out to the Canadian Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs, the advocacy agent of Jewish Federations of Canada-UIA, and to our FJMC Combating Antisemitism Initiative Committee to learn more how you can become more involved and take action.

Men’s Club Shabbat is an opportunity for Men’s Club members to lead the Shabbat service(s).

Engage your members as leaders.

Expand their comfort level by asking men to do something they have not done before – like reading Torah or leading a Hebrew reading.

Keith Meyers z"l
We regret to inform you of the passing of Keith Meyers, past Seaboard Region Vice-President, and former treasurer and president of Shaare Tikvah. Keith led ritual programming at many retreats, was an editor of HaD'var, and made many other contributions to his club, region and the FJMC. 
We extend our sincerest condolences to his wife, JoAnn and daughters, Becca and Brenda and the entire Meyers Family. We pray that they be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.

May the legacy and memory of Keith Meyers be a source of blessing and comfort to all who knew and loved him. 
Contributions in Keith's memory may be made to the FJMC International.

Resources: Minyan of Comfort
 
What is Minyan of Comfort?

Minyan of Comfort is a joint project of the FJMC and the Cantors Assembly.

The project involves a lay training initiative coupled with the publication, Creating a Minyan of Comfort.

The training and accompanying publication are designed to:

  • Assist synagogues in developing a corps of trained shiva minyanim lay leaders
  • Clarify and share community minhag and halacha
  • Gain familiarity with the various siddurim and other booklets that are often used in a shiva minyan
  • Learn the traditional nusach for each service (e.g. Mincha; Ma’ariv)
  • Gain awareness of any special liturgical needs (e.g. Rosh Chodesh; Al HaNisim; Omer; etc.)
  • Understand the role of menachem avel, comforter of the bereaved
  • Encourage clubs to share and collaborate on their own Minyan of Comfort implementations
