“Today Is Tomorrow’s Yesterday” - A New Genealogy Affinity Group
A Jewish Genealogy Affinity group is forming, sponsored by the Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs. Genealogy provides a process for passing your identity to your offspring, and for experiencing “today” in the perspective of your family history. The Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs has a history of leadership building and fundraising programming, in addition to programs to enrich men’s lives like Hearing Men’s Voices. From this perspective FJMC is initiating this exciting new initiative and is open to men and women, from beginner to expert.
The plan is to provide an internet-based experience starting with teaching and flowing into workshops driven by the interests of the participants. The group will enable you to learn the basics and/or improve your skills with the help of seasoned genealogists. Participant will be able to: create simple or broad extended family trees, archive personal stories through finding genetically related “cousins”, and much, much more!
You are invited to the first meeting of this group on Thursday, October 8th at 8:00PM EDT.
We are very proud that our first speaker will be Ken Bravo, President of the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies. Ken will discuss, “The Nuts and Bolts of Jewish Genealogy.” Among the topics ken will cover are the “Bubbemeises” of Jewish genealogy, naturalizations and census records, ships manifests, headstones, newspapers and more.
Ken, a retired attorney, is from the Cleveland, Ohio area. He is a past president of the Great Lakes Region of the FJMC and the Jewish Genealogical Society of Cleveland. He has been engaged in genealogy for 35 years. He formed Nuts & Bolts Jewish Genealogy, a service to assist others in finding their roots.
The first session will be on Thursday, October 8th at 8:00 PM EDT. Register at Link. After supplying basic contact information and what you would like to learn, you will receive the Zoom link. This will be the only time you will need to register. Invitations will be sent to future sessions. Please share this message with others who might be interested in joining this group.”
