Happy New Year 2021!

As we all await our turn to receive a COVID virus vaccine, we thought we would take this opportunity to look back at 2020.  In this special edition of HaShofar, we highlight the most popular articles of 2020 along with those that featured key themes of our organization.

During this past year FJMC rolled out new Virtual Jewish Celebrations, the unique and rewarding Wine on the Vine initiative; a myriad of Webinars and Affinity Groups (Cooking, Genealogy, Sports, Yiddish) to help keep us all informed, entertained and connected during these extraordinary times.

Additionally, HaShofar now includes a listing each month of those who have generously made donations to the FJMC. We updated our donations page so you can make donations in honor/memory of someone and have an email or paper acknowledgement sent to the honoree or the family of the deceased.

I would like to thank our HaShofar editors, David Edwards, Paul Kaplan and Lester Shapiro in helping produce these publications as well as our 40+ authors who are listed below.

A Jewish Doctor in Saudi Arabia

Dr. Paul Davidson is active in his synagogue, his Brotherhood, and the FJMC. He never expected that those activities would lead him to taking on a patient who was a high official in the government of Saudi Arabia.

  • The Middle Atlantic Region bought customized masks.

A virtual shiva cannot replicate the meaningful experience of a potentially week-long shiva. However, it can
provide comfort and help preserve some wonderful memories that will help sustain you during your
mourning process. As we say, “memories are a blessing.”

Some synagogues have started sharing this guide with recent mourners and linking to it on their websites.
