Join us for a transformative weekend of connection, reflection, and renewal at the Jewish Community Men’s Retreat. Set in a peaceful Brandeis Bardin Campus in Simi Valley, this retreat offers men in the Jewish community, and of all backgrounds, the opportunity to step away from daily life, build meaningful relationships, explore masculinity through a Jewish lens, and deepen their spiritual and emotional well-being. Through group discussions, shared meals, Shabbat, music, outdoor activities, and personal growth workshops, we’ll create a supportive brotherhood rooted in tradition, vulnerability, and strength.

Why?

The community has asked, and we are heeding the call! Free from the stresses of work, home and urban life, the Men’s Retreat will be a breath of fresh air, literally and figuratively. It combines the best parts of FJMC programs and will enable participants to plug into nature while unplugging from daily life.

General Information

  1. What is the purpose of this retreat?
    This retreat is designed to create a meaningful space for men to bond, reflect, and build connections with one another. It’s an opportunity to foster brotherhood, engage in thoughtful discussions, and enjoy a restful weekend with other men in the Jewish community.
  2. Who is this retreat for?
    This retreat is open to all Jewish men, as well as men who are not Jewish but are part of the Jewish community through interfaith relationships. We warmly welcome BIPOC men, GBTQIA+ men, and men from diverse backgrounds and levels of Jewish observance. Our goal is to create an inclusive space where every participant feels welcome and valued.
  3. What is the retreat’s approach to politics?
    The retreat is entirely apolitical. Our focus is on personal growth, connection, and spiritual exploration, not political debates. We ask all attendees to respect this boundary to maintain a positive and open environment.

Jewish Practice & Shabbat Observance

  1. What is the level of Shabbat observance at the retreat?
    The retreat is pluralistic in its approach to Shabbat, meaning we welcome and respect a variety of observance levels. Some attendees may refrain from using electronics and writing, while others may have a different practice. We ask everyone to be mindful of one another’s choices and to foster a respectful environment.
  2. Will there be communal prayer services?
    Yes, we will offer structured prayer services for those who wish to participate. However, participation is entirely optional, and there will be alternative ways to engage spiritually if traditional prayer isn’t your preference.
  3. Can I bring my tefillin and tallit?
    Yes, you are encouraged to bring any religious items that are part of your practice.

Kosher Food & Dietary Needs

  1. Is the food kosher?
    Yes, all meals provided will be strictly kosher. If you have any additional dietary restrictions (e.g., vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, allergies), please let us know in in the registration form, and we will do our best to accommodate.
  2. Can I bring my own food?
    Because the retreat follows kosher food policies, all outside food must stay in your rooms. But please know we will have plenty of food available.
  3. Will alcohol be served?

Yes, during lounge hours.

Lodging & Accommodations

  1. What are the sleeping arrangements?
    Participants will stay in shared accommodations. If you have specific needs regarding rooming, please indicate them in your registration form, and we will do our best to accommodate.
  2. Is the retreat facility accessible for those with mobility challenges?
    Yes, the facility is accessible, but if you have specific concerns, please contact us so we can ensure your needs are met.

Retreat Activities & Community Building

  1. What kind of activities will be offered?
    The retreat will feature a mix of structured and unstructured activities, including small group discussions, outdoor hikes, meditation, music, and opportunities for deep conversations and bonding.
  2. Will there be time for personal reflection?
    Yes, while there are scheduled programs, there will also be ample free time for personal reflection, rest, and informal connection with others.

  1. How does the retreat ensure an inclusive and welcoming environment?
    This retreat is committed to fostering an environment where all men in the Jewish community, men of color, GBTQIA+ men, and men in interfaith relationships with the Jewish community feel respected and valued. We ask all participants to bring a spirit of openness, kindness, and brotherhood.
  2. Is this retreat only for those who are religious?

Not at all. This retreat welcomes men from all levels of Jewish observance, from secular to Orthodox, and everywhere in between.

Technology & Communication

  1. Will there be WiFi and cell service at the retreat?
    WiFi and cell service may be limited, as the retreat is designed to provide a break from everyday distractions. We encourage participants to be present and unplugged, but emergency contact options will be available.

Registration & Logistics

  1. How do I register, and what is the cost?
    Registration details, including cost and deadlines, will be provided on our official registration page. If financial assistance is needed, please reach out to us confidentially.
  2. What should I bring?
    A full packing list will be sent to registered participants, but essentials include comfortable clothing, a water bottle, toiletries, any religious items you use (tallit, tefillin, if you require them), and an open heart ready for connection.
  3. What is the cancellation policy?
    If you need to cancel, please notify us as soon as possible.
