FJMC International is a registered non-governmental organization
By Jerry Brodsky and Steven Mandel
FJMC International serves thousands of members across North America and throughout the world, providing connections among Jewish men through our 200 clubs, our innovative programming and our online activity.
But that’s not enough. So where else do we turn to expand our global reach? The United Nations.
In an attempt to represent and benefit Jewish men as an important part of our global society, FJMC International has established itself as a registered non-governmental organization (NGO) with the U.N. in New York.
Through our representatives – Dr. Steven Mandel, Daniel Gross and International President Bruce Tomar – FJMC attends informational meetings, provides input as needed or appropriate, and tracks the progress of international initiatives that affect or interest our members.
We will monitor U.N. decisions and actions, issue statements where appropriate, lobby diplomatic missions as needed, educate officials about our programs and contributions, build relationships with other NGOs, work with U.N. agencies, and organize or participate in events and speaker forums.
Some may ask why a brotherhood of Jewish men should have a relationship with the U.N. But a better question could be why it shouldn’t.
With 193 member nations and other international representatives, the U.N. provides an opportunity to build bridges, foster dialogue among different cultures and religions, and promote mutual respect among nations and peoples. Its humanitarian causes, human rights advocacy, focus on health, sustainability and the environment, and promotion of education and international cooperation not only align with the core Jewish values we represent, but match up with many of our own initiatives.

Despite the U.N.’s checkered history toward Israel, FJMC International believes our presence is better than our absence. With our visibility, we will keep our members informed, solicit input from them, and attempt to build relationships that promote healthy dialogue and helpful actions around the world for all. Through our engagement, we can advance our own goals, and support our Jewish brethren globally while doing our part to repair the world (Tikkun Olam).
