TIKKUN OLAM THE WORLD STAGE: Jewish values of the UN Ideals in Dialogue.

As the final weeks of the year unfold, the United Nations enters a dynamic
period of dialogue and decision making. These month’s programs reflect the urgency and cooperation of the international community as they prepare for 2026.

Why should the FJMC International be concerned about the events at the
United Nations?

The UN plays a significant role in global issues that affect the Jewish community and Israel. The FJMC with NGO status engages actively for Israel, defending religious freedom, promote human rights, and uphold Jewish values on global platforms. The UN’s work on health, mental wellness, environmental protection and sustainable development aligns the FJMC broader mission for the global Jewish community.

Global Plan of Action to combat trafficking in persons: This includes child victimization, forced labor, renewed commitment to nations, law enforcement, NGOs, survivors and public sectors. There will be an international effort to empower victims through voluntary trust funds and strengthen legal frameworks.

Jewish values has a long moral, legal and spiritual foundation that condemns any form of exploitation, enslavement or degradation of human beings. Trafficking is a desecration of the divine image in humanity, and a betrayal of the central Jewish value of liberation. Trafficking and kidnapping is a capital crime.

The World Summit on Information Society (WSIS +20), will address
Human Rights, with allegations of atrocities, and ethnically motivated violence. Through the UN Office of the Human Condition for Human Rights, the goals will be to eradicate poverty, promoting full and decent employment, fostering social inclusion, combatting inequalities aggravated by demographic shifts, technology and environmental changes, peace security and development.

Jewish values have long emphasized the inherent dignity, worth, and moral responsibility of every human being. All humans are created in the image of G-d, B’tzelem Elohim. Protection of the vulnerable, the sacredness of life, justice, compassion, and communal responsibility are core Jewish values.

Sustainability Development Goals. Two billion people are affected by water stress. 80 % of wastewater is released into nature without adequate water treatment. The Un proposes programs to improve energy efficiency with renewable energy. It aims to have safe and affordable drinking water, adequate sanitation and housing, and reducing hazard chemical release.

Caring for the climate is a sacred responsibility. Shomeri Adamah need to act as caretakers: Guardians of the land. In Rabbi Nina Beth Cardin book: To Forever Inhabit This Earth…. She explores the concept of Ba’l Taschit (do not waste, and Shmita (rest for the land , provide a framework for Jewish environmental ethic.

UN Misinformation: The UN International Telecommunication network advances technology and global communication to detect and combat AI misinformation and deep fakes. These threaten elections, integration, financial systems, information trusts cyber-attacks, that threaten international peace and security. The UN will have training to counter
misinformation and disinformation, hate speech, within a global regulatory framework.

Jewish tradition teaches us that AI can be used purposeful, compassionate use that aligns with moral and divine imperatives. The spiritual connection, empathy and the pursuit of a higher purpose should not replace responsible actors, with human growth for the greater food. The UN has been involved in UNESCO Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence.

Peace (shalom) and Security ( bitichon), Preserving a life ( Pikuah nefesh), and the term Shalom U’Bitachon), can indicate protection and Guidance with inner tranquility and security.

CPO 30 – The UN Climate Change Conference with accelerate implementation of existing climate agreements, strengthen multilateralism, and cooperation, and focus on climate finance and application. It will spotlight on nature- based solutions, including forest restoration, and support indigenous people.

Other areas will include proposals for gender-based violence, cybercrimes, space and law policy.

The Un has been both a stage for advocacy and contention regarding Jewish values. It has also taken a leadership role in Human Rights Protection, Holocaust Education and Remembrance, Combating Antisemitism, Global Cooperation and Diplomacy, Humanitarian Development Work, Promotion of Religious Freedom. Agencies and Initiatives include UNESCO, United Nations Alliance of Civilization (Office of Special Advisor on Prevention of Genocide), Office if the High Commission for Human Rights.

In summary, the FJMC International at an NGO, helps promote justice, human rights, global peace, while ensuring representation and advocacy against antisemitism and for Israel’s security and Zionism (a Jewish homeland in the historic land of Israel).
