In the spring of 2020, as families across Israel prepared for Passover in isolation, Channel 12 created a powerful musical moment of unity. As part of The Big Israeli Seder, 31 of Israel’s leading artists joined together—each recording from home—to perform the beloved Seder song Echad Mi Yodea.
The result was a moving mosaic of voices that captured the spirit of a nation separated physically yet deeply connected in heart and tradition. The clip, directed by Yossi Elias with musical production by Amos Ben David, quickly became a symbol of comfort, resilience and shared identity during an uncertain time.
At the center of this collaboration is one of the most iconic songs of the Passover Seder. Echad Mi Yodea is a cumulative counting song that builds from one to 13, each number representing a cornerstone of Jewish faith and heritage—from the One God to the Twelve Tribes and beyond. With its rising energy, call-and-response style, and joyful repetition, the song transforms learning into celebration and tradition into living memory
Together, this modern performance and this ancient song create something extraordinary: a bridge between generations, between homes and between past and present. It is not just a performance—it is a reminder that wherever Jews gather, and even when they cannot gather at all, the story, the music and the spirit of the Seder continue to unite us as one.
The clip, which moved the entire country, features Eyal Golan, Maya Buskila, Banya Barbie, Shlomi Shabat, Yuval Dayan, Sarit Hadad, Marina Maximilian Blumin, Eliad, Agam Buchbot, Moshe Peretz and others.
What the Song Means
Echad Mi Yodea is more than a counting song—it is a declaration of Jewish values passed from generation to generation. Each verse builds upon the last, reinforcing the idea that faith, memory and identity are cumulative, layered and inseparable. By the time the song reaches its joyful climax, it reminds us that our story is strongest when every voice, every number and every generation is included.
