DAVID KUFELD
First Orthodox Jew selected in the NBA Draft
David Kufeld is graduate of Yeshiva University majoring in public relations and advertising, In his senior year at Yeshiva University he was named an All American and led all NCAA Division 111 in the country in rebounding during his junior and senior years. He is fifth all time in Division 111 rebounding. David was named National Jewish Player of the Yar for Divisions II and III by the Jewish Sports Review in 1979 and 1980. He became the first Orthodox Jew selected in the NBA Draft when he was chosen by the Portland Trail Blazers in 1980.
He was inducted into the Yeshiva University’s Athletic Hall of Fame and will be inducted into the Jewish Sports Heritage
Association at a ceremony this April.
