Going global for High Holy Days

FJMC launches new Yizkor Book, promotes streaming services

By Jerry Brodsky

FJMC’s International Region – our newest effort to expand our reach around the globe – is proud to introduce a pair of new initiatives for the High Holy Days intended to bring our worldwide community closer together as one.

High Holiday services around the world via streaming

As Jews around the globe begin preparing for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur in September, the International Region is pleased to announce it will provide over a dozen options for you to attend High Holiday services virtually from synagogues around the world.

Besides a diverse set of North American options in the United States and Canada that most FJMC members are already aware of, we want to connect you to livestreamed services from our fellow Jewish communities in England, France, Australia, Hungary, Argentina and other countries. It’s an opportunity to see how our religious observance can be both diverse but familiar no matter where we are, and to explore the different traditions that have evolved, and the different cultures that shape us.

We have begun preparing a list of synagogues and websites for you to experience, which we will share soon. If you are aware of other synagogues around the world that stream their services that you think should be on our list of options, email  with the synagogue’s name, city and country, and its website.

Todah Rabah!

Our Yizkor Book

Along with online access to High Holiday services worldwide, you will also have the opportunity for the first time to place the names of loved ones who have passed on into our first annual online FJMC Yizkor Book. Accessible to print or simply view as a GoogleDoc, you can reserve a place in the Yizkor Book for your loved ones’ names, for only $18 (U.S.) per name, simply by accessing information here or going directly to the form to submit names here.

Zichrono livracha. May we all be comforted by their memories, and may they always be for a blessing.
