Shalom, achim. Short article this month. Pesach usually revolves around wine and I confess to be anything but a wine connoisseur. As most folks know, Scotch, bourbon, and most grain-based potables are Pesach no-nos. However, there a couple of legitimate brandies and the old standby, Slivovitz.
Last year, I discovered a number of brands of tequila that are Kosher for Passover. So, if you need/want something with a little more kick than your “Blue Bottle” or Manischewitz Malaga jello, er-um-uh wine, try one of these: Patrón Silver, Patrón Ahumado Silver, Patrón El Cielo, and the one we like, Zarza Tequila Añejo.
Generally speaking, a tequila made strictly from blue agave – i.e., not flavored – would generally be K for P. Most Orthodox and Conservative rabbis still insist that a kosher symbol such a cRc, OU, or OK are not enough. To be certain, the symbol must be followed by a ‘P’ or say Kosher for Passover outright.
Tequila Añejo is a slightly sweet tequila with a smoky finish that lingers after the swallow. The palate is full bodied, slightly spicy, with a creamy finish.
As I said, short and sweet. A zis, freylekh, aun koshere Peysekh to all. Oh, yes — HaDvar would love to have you share one or two of your favorite potables. Please send your write-ups to Al Davis: .
