Everything I know today, I learned at Convention

A learning experience to last a lifetime

By Bruce Tomar

Why is FJMC International’s convention so important and so valuable to attend? Let me give you a few reasons.

Friendship – The guys I’ve met, the lives that influenced me, the lives I’ve influenced. Because of the conventions, to this day I have friends, guys I can call on, from across the United States and Canada. My hope is to make even more friends across Europe.

Judaism – Unless you attend a convention, you cannot appreciate the ruach and the sense of community at one of our services and breakout sessions at the ever-popular Geffen Institute. Because of convention, I stepped outside my comfort zone and read Torah and Haftorah. Ask anyone, they will tell you: This is the synagogue I would join.

Mentorship – I’ve learned and I’ve taught. From generation to generation, the best part of FJMC and its conventions is the opportunity to speak to and learn from the guys who came before us. The wealth of knowledge that our International Presidents, past and current, can impart is by itself worth the price of admission.

Community – “We are the same, we are brothers!” Our brotherhood, our shared goals and commitment makes one of the most powerful communities. Everything I mentioned in the previous three paragraphs comes together here.

Registration is now open for our 2027 convention in San Francisco, July 8-11, 2027. If you do one thing to invest in your clubs and regions, convention is there for you.

To quote Tevye(or rather to paraphrase): Convention, Convention. Without our convention, our lives would be as shaky as a fiddler on the roof!

Yours in brotherhood,

Bruce Tomar
