What is the World Wide Wrap, you ask? The World Wide Wrap is an initiative begun by the Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs (FJMC) to encourage everyone to put on Tefillin. The mitzvah of wrapping Tefillin is one of our most basic rituals. Yet, for many of us, it is removed from our daily lives.
The ‘Wrap’ was initiated by the Men’s Club at Temple Israel in Charlotte, which organized a program known as the “100-Man Wrap” in April of 2000. On a bright spring Sunday morning, more than a hundred men and women gathered at an outdoor minyan to daven the daily Shacharit service. Extra sets of Tefillin were available for first-timers and seasoned wrappers served as “personal trainers.”
That Torch-Award winning program became the blueprint for the FJMC to promote the annual ‘World Wide Wrap’ which occurs internationally on Super Bowl Sunday.
